The Herd Sustainability Challenge – First Quarter Recap
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, our team – The Herd – took on a challenge this quarter to embrace more sustainable practices. From growing our own food to repurposing and upcycling clothing, our recruiters explored different ways to reduce their environmental impact. Here’s a look at what each recruiter focused on:
HAYLEY – Hayley is passionate about sustainable fashion, and is currently educating herself further on ‘’fast fashion’’ HERE is some information on this topic if you would like to learn about it. She needed some new black leggings recently as hers had a big hole in them which couldn’t be fixed, instead of purchasing new she got some from a thrift store.
Additionally, Hayley had a busy first quarter, being away for some of it and visiting endangered species. She is currently in the process of creating a blog all about Palm oil, which she experienced in Borneo. We will aim to share this with you in our next spotlight newsletter.
ML – This quarter, ML made both small and significant changes to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle. She installed solar power and is now 90% off-grid, aiming for 100% by year-end. She also started a veggie garden and has been actively reducing single-use plastics, with her biggest achievement being eliminating plastic bags entirely.
AMORE – Since 2018, Amore has remained committed to reducing plastic waste by refusing to buy plastic bags and relying solely on reusable shopping bags. This long-standing habit not only minimizes her environmental impact but also reinforces the importance of making sustainable choices in everyday life.
ANDREA – Andrea has been propagating succulents to create a low-maintenance, water-efficient garden. With a mix of purchased and donated plants, she has kept the project cost-effective while also finding the process incredibly therapeutic.
ASHLEIGH – Ashleigh embraced a fun, eco-friendly challenge after moving from the bush back to suburban life, transforming her backyard into a mini homegrown paradise. Using wooden boxes as the foundation, she planted a variety of fresh herbs and veggies, eliminating the need for store-bought, plastic-wrapped produce. Now, every salad, smoothie, and meal is filled with homegrown goodness—fresher, tastier, and far more satisfying, knowing she grew it herself.
DANIELLE – Danielle has found growing her own food to be an incredibly rewarding experience. This season, she successfully cultivated tomatoes, beans, lettuce, potatoes, basil, and beets, enjoying both the process and the satisfaction of homegrown produce. For her, it’s not just sustainable—it’s also great fun!
NIKKI – Nikki is currently developing a Guide Training School (learn more about it HERE) and their entire campus will be powered by solar energy, which they successfully installed this quarter. In addition to embracing renewable energy, they have also begun planting indigenous trees around the campus, furthering their commitment to sustainability.
DOM – I’ve started learning how to sew and use a sewing machine! With these new skills, I’ll be able to repurpose and modify items I already own instead of buying new ones, embracing a more sustainable and resourceful approach to fashion and everyday essentials.

ORGANIZATION OF THE QUARTER
Starting in 2025 we are choosing one organization each quarter to donate a portion of our profits.
This quarter we are donating to: African Pangolin Group
We thought that since we celebrated World Pangolin Day on the 15th of February, it was only right to donate to this incredible organization. The African Pangolin Working Group, an organization dedicated to protecting Africa’s pangolins through rescue, rehabilitation, research, and anti-trafficking efforts
What we have planned for Quarter 2
Exciting things are on the way! Soon, a FREE LinkedIn Guide will be available to help job seekers and professionals fine-tune their profiles and set themselves up for success. Alongside this, various FREE courses are also in the works to provide even more support—stay tuned!
We will also be offering a FREE webinar on Career Clarity in Q2! Follow our socials for an update on when this will take place.
And then lastly we are excited to share that we are busy communicating with various Non-Profits on offering our Work-Ready Workshop to benefit the local community. We will be doing this for multiple partners and will share what we cover and how this went next quarter – see you then!
